Family fun at the DC Cherry Blossom Festival
Every twelvemonth effectually the stop of March or beginning of Apr, the Tidal Bowl/Potomac Park area of downtown Washington DC practically explodes into a magical world of fragile little pink and white fluttering petals. There are parades, concerts, and scores of other fun events, and information technology seems like almost every photo taken of the flowers and the surface area in full general turns out unbelievably gorgeous. People travel from all over the world to accept in the sight, and y'all'd amend believe that absolutely anybody is snapping pictures
For the past 3 years we've watched the buds grow on the Red Blossom Cam, and fabricated plans to spend a day in the urban center when the trees achieve their peak bloom stage. The first twelvemonth there was a downward cascade, the 2d year Corbin was born 2 weeks earlier than expected, and concluding year we were so busy that we completely forgot until it was too late.
With Ant out of town for a full calendar week (during the expected superlative bloom of course :-P), I was sure we were going to miss our hazard all the same again. Simply it turns out something good actually came from all those freakishly late snow showers nosotros kept having effectually hither. The cold weather added an actress week to the blossom bike, and Ant returned dwelling just in time to take a day off and relish a beautiful spring outing with me and the kids.
The whole day was perfect! We saw the gorgeous trees, had a picnic luncheon in the warm sunshine, strolled effectually the Mall, and then spent the afternoon at the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum. Aurelia and Corbin both had an awesome time visiting the dinosaurs, wildlife, sea critters, and "sparkly" rocks. (aka behemothic crystals and gems!)
It was so squeamish to take a pause from the chores, errands, and unpacking that take filled our last 2 months to do something fun together for a change. We all had such a slap-up time, and it looks like I was even able to infringe a flake of the flower'southward "super photogenic powers" to get tons of adorable shots of the kids. When did they go so stinkin' big?!
(And no, earlier any of you asks, the magical photogenic powers were not quite strong plenty to work on me. Sadly I'm still jinxed.
But this time I'm going to arraign Emmet'due south photography skills (or lack thereof) for my wonky pictures 😉
